I have spent my time preparing for the upcoming interview with PSA.
Got some input from my trainer =) So glad that she is willing to help and give me some tips.

My relative is able to send me an invitation letter. However, due to the easter holiday, he can only do that about 2-3 weeks later. Sob...My application will take anohter 2 weeks. That means 5 weeks from now.

That means my passport will not be available if threre is any delay in the application.

Waking up at 1 pm. What a good way of starting my week.

Definitely I missed my morning class again. But heck about it. Can watch webcast later.

The good thing is by the time I woke up, I have automatically pocketed US$30.

But again, this earning has been cut by Visa card. I was making payment of US$1000 using my UOB card. Annoyingly, they charged my SGD$1444. That was ridiculous rate while the market rate is hovering around1.405. Haiz....Leech.. That means, my pocketed money went to VISA card.

Business is lidat dude. Dont think can earn a clean cut. You must consider all those middle man who try to eat your profit despite your losses.

Job hunting is a very delicate problem. At one hand, I feel like travelling and ignore about this adult ppl matter. But on the other hand, I cant avoid reality. I am afraid of being jobless depression as well.

Oh well.. Take one at a time..Get one rolling and then the second one and the third one.

0.Sold off excess stuff on ebay though doesn't really make profit...Prob got nett loss..

0.5 Kai Kai in town...There are lots of things happening in Birmingham city today...

1. Bullring was closed a few days till this afternoon because of some chemical contamination in the air circulation system in the complex.... I saw it reopen again...Yay..

2. There is an annual Gay Parade Festival near bullring complex.. This is similar to Chingay Parade concept. Took a few pictures with some gays..They are really cool people....We shouldn't judge them...

3. Sunny day... First time seeing the britz having beer chilling in the sun at the cafe at the arcadian- aka china town of Birmingham. There is a post parade party around that area where people sells drink and club in the day time..There is a bungee Jumping as well...

For sex education...They give off freebees...which Singaporeans always like...but apparently they are too shy to keep it for themselves...Make a wild guess of their whatabout.

Tada..they are none other than condom and lube for safe sex after party and some safe sex socializing... Some think they are shampoo freebies...coz they come with TONI and GUY discount voucher.

4. Did quite a good exercise...run 4 rounds of the 3 big fields off my flat and some sit up...
Good job Stanley... It will be better tomorrow.

5. Have great lunch at nando with friends...though the one at Bullring wasn't open today...So had to go all the way to paradise forum.. It is a crowded day because of the bank holiday on Monday.

6. There are horrific traffic jams on the highways and railways because all the britz are travelling...A friend of my friend was trapped in there for an additional 5 hours to get herself from London to Birmingham.

7. Had good Salad, Prawn noodle, and Grass Jelly Longan dessert.. Thanks to Alvin...
Without his visit...This wont be possible...and kudos to the others who make this happen. E,J,S,F.

8. Got my luggages from Argos...They are really big. I dont really trust the 15 Pound bags for carrying heavy stuff.. I would give it a 25 kg load limit. But the problem is that it has way too big a capacity. 120 Liters of space which equivalent to 125 kg of goods if the density is 1g/cm3 or 1000kg/m3. So I am expected to carry around things with density of 0.2g/cm3 . Sorry for being an annoying engineer who rants on this kind of details.

Angles and Demons

I watched this movie based on Dan Brown's novel called Angles and Demons on sneak preview yesterday. Perhaps, one of the first view to watch this in Uk because it is only released nation wide today on 15 May.

It is really a good thriller show, but if you have read enough of Brown's novel, you would be able to predict the outcome. The graphics are good and for those who has never been to Rome and Vatican City, it is a good opportunity for you to see the famous Saint Peter's Square. For those, who has always wonder about quantum mechanics nuclear physics, you will get to see how anti matter is being put forward for layman such that it is understandable to everyone. Hence, making your jobs easier to talk to them about this thing in the future.

After Angels and Demons, we continue with out second movie, X-Man Origin: Wolverine. This part of the sequel describes the begining of the X-men series. It depicts the origin of Wolverine and all other characters in X-Men as well. That is why it is called X-Men Origin. Treat yourself to the actions loaded movie this weekend.

Sadly to say, the rain has been pouring non stop from last night.
It is really daunting to be in this kind of weather. Either trap inside of the house or catch in the rain outside, just like last nite when walked home from five ways.

Here is just a bad news for all of us here...

Even, if it is here..it wont be long before the dark cloud takes over the blue sky.
When the weather is good again, please go outside and let yourself roam free in the nature before the chance is gone.

As I had never experienced spring before, I would say that it is not as good as my imaginations.
Perhaps, Europe is much better. They are entering Summer already. There are very little rain and the temperature has rose up to 26 degree Celsius. Unlike Europe, UK is stuck in this mourning weather and temperature remains low, hovering below 15 degree in the day time.

My apology that I turned this blog to become a channel of cursing things I hate here.
Apparently, it should only cover the good things in UK. But as a blogger, I have to reveal both sides of the story.

Well, this is just something that I am grateful about for today.

Zee and her mother has finally reconciled. What a big relief.
It is good to see both of them talking and laughing again. The depressing atmosphere changes over the evening. What a wonder. That is the proof that parents and children normally will reconcile again. Except some families which are so selfish and non forgiving. Really, they exists.

Espana strawberries in UK is a waste of money

Enough is enough...
No more strawberries. They are all substandard and none of them is sweet. Moreover, they are overpriced.
They are utterly disappointing. The strawberries are pieces of sour and tasteless chunk of Ubi.
I regretted getting three boxes last Saturday. It is an absolute waste of money..Don't buy strawberries in UK. I have totally lose faith in the strawberries here.

Croatia has better and much cheaper strawberries. Though the strawberries are from Spain, they are sweeter. This really puzzles me.

I want an explanation.

Engineering Exams? No worries..

Freddy Finally is confident of his core engineering module examinations.
Now it is time to move on to revise non explicit modules such as Corporate Finance and Engineering Project management.

I cant believe that I am going to sit for a ridiculous project management module.
75% of he exam questions are disclosed 2 weeks prior to the exam date.
However, Freddy still has problem answering them because it is full of crap.

This whole day, I have done nothing much...

Wake up to prepare cheese burger for brunch before seriously studying for exam.
While eating, I allow myself to watch Criminal's mind. Hopefully it helps in my exam.
Perhaps, it is part of data mining subject...getting to know the type, characteristics and habit of criminals so as to deduce the solution for the next criminal case. That is the application of data mining. Except, doing it manually by watching it myself, I should make the computer to do it for me. That is the real use of data mining. LOL..

Except studying a few chapters of Data mining.. Currently left with 3 more to go..Hopefully I can finish it tonight... I have got nothing much done, but distracted by facebook, ebay, emails, msn.

Today, the weather is so sunny...Then I decided to take a 2 km jog around the 3 rugby fields next to Ashcroft. To my surprise, the flu that I caught yesterday because of jogging disappears after today's run. Yay..Feeling so happy...

But, the misfortune just can't stay away. I am being careless again, didn't pay enough attention to my darling's newly developed depression. I didn't expect it to escalate till so bad.

I am really sorry about that honey...If I could go back in the time, I would make sure that I do a flawless job. Feel terrible for her to be in such situation where she has no one to turn to and has to handle a huge exam in a few days time.

Finally revision week is over. That means, we are entering a new reading week before fully geared up battling the examinations. However for an exchange students, that means please do some studies so that you will clear the modules. With that motivation in mind, it is really hard to sit still to study seriously like I did in Singapore. BUT, as a good student, I have to make sure that I do my best before sitting for the papers.

As for now, I know that I can pass 2 or 3 modules with some revisions.. But I know I can do well as well. It is pretty easy to score if I were to study properly because I know what will come out in the examinations.

Today has been a poor studying day. Did so little studies on Networking but the material didn't really sink in. Want to know why? Because I don't think that those chapters will be emphasized in the exam. They are very dry also. But as usual, I like to know everything before sitting for the paper. I just cant sit still, doing nothing about it. Meanwhile, there are a lot of distractions around here: Browsing internet, Facebooking, GeoChallenge, EBay, EBay motor, Grocery Shopping.

Anyway, just want to comment about the weather....
The weather here is very bad because it is not like what I expect and desire.

Spring spring spring is cold, wet and windy. More over, I don't see much flowers around Birmingham. Probably I can become a complaint King now.

Let me describe to you what a good spring is like.
Spring brings lots of flowers everywhere. It is cooling yet sunny and minus the rains in the day time.

I remember an incident having to walk in the windy shower to get home without neither umbrella nor jacket. It was like a big disappointment towards Spring which I had been looking forward to. I felt betrayed by Spring.

Spring in Croatia is so so much better...Now I prefer Croatia to UK...
Probably there are lots of mixed reasons behind this too...
(Actually, I love UK, just that feel disappointed with the wind and transport system in B'ham)
That is why Zagreb is a much better place for now.

One more important thing, I cant find good and cheap strawberries here.

The Escape From the Deadly Quiet Birmingham

Hey Peeps,

Just feel very relieved to have escaped the deadly boredom in University of Birmingham. The campus where I stay is pretty much empty now. Computer lab is deserted though it was fully packed the week before all these phenomenas occurred. The thought of having no one around drove me up the wall. Before I could fully grasp that idea, the really hit hard on me, driving me further up to the ceiling.

That weekend, started on 27 March 2009 evening. By then everyone has left Birmingham. One went off to Amsterdam, the other two backpacked to Italy, another one went for skiing trip in Switzerland, one more went to Manchester, yet another soul went to eastern Europe, and my darling went for a weekend trip to Zürich. Practically everyone is not physically around. Though there were many around on the web, the thought that everyone else who weren't trumped the others.

This very syndrome of human being is called tunnel vision. One wouldn't realize the opportunities in the quiet and calm moments like this and the company of others who are still around. Perhaps, this is the similar cause that drive the whole stock market down when one is not doing well. This proves human is a mere weak creatures. Therefore we still need a divine one.

Human no 1 foe.

University of Birmingham is going for Easter Break

Winter semester finally just ended here in University of Birmingham. Now all the students are ready and all excited about the one month easter break. I saw quite a few students packing up and moving back home for the holiday this morning. In deed, my housemate has gone for holiday since off to Skiing trip in Switzerland last Friday while I dealt with my eggie robot project.

Anyway, now is my turn to go on holiday. But before that, there are so many things to do prior to my departure. I have to make sure that I finished all the perishable foodstuff in the fridge and bring some school assignments with me to do during my long vacation.

Anyway,I dont like the idea of UK vacation. After the break, it is time for handing in assignment and sitting for the exams. It is really a crappy holiday. Now I learn to appreciate National University of Singapore for arranging the holiday after the exam. In that way we can have 3 months holiday =)

By the way, spring is here already. Flowers are blooming everywhere and leaves are coming out from the buds. Beautiful season is waiting ahead. Cant wait to visit botanical garden in a month time.

Money and Banks in UK

Yoz...It has been a while since I posted something interesting.
We are going to talk about money today. Sure everyone loves it.

After travelling the whole UK, I figured out something interesting about their money.

Each countries in the United Kingdom Printed their own money.

England came out with Pound Sterling with Queen Elizabeth as the Icon. This money is printed by Bank of England- the only bank which prints money in England. This means that other established bank in England such as Lloyds TSB, Barclays, NatWest and HSBC doesnt get to print any.

When I went over to Northern Ireland, I realise that they do not use England Sterling on the market, but they are still valid though. Instead, Ireland sterling is used nation wide in the northern Ireland. They are printed by the local banks in N.Ireland. There are four banks printing Sterling in Ireland. They are Bank of Ireland, First Trust Bank, Northern Bank, and Ulster Bank Limited.

This practice reminds me of Hong kong Dollar which is printed by several local banks in Hong kong, namely: Hong kong Shanghai Banking Corporation, Standard Chartered Bank and Bank of China.

In Scotland, the money is printed by Bank of Scotland, RBS- Royal Bank of Scotland PLC.

However for Wales, I have a hunch that they are using England Sterling instead of printing their own money.

Maybe we can hope that one day Singapore banks print the money instead of the government.
Imagine DBS ( Development Bank Of Singapore) , OCBC (Overseas Chinese Banking Corporation) , and UOB( United Overseas Bank) print money for Singapore. That will make Singaporean to get use to seeing different version of money.

Robot continuation II

The Lecture approve of feeding the baby with lots and lots milk...so that it can perform....

Robot continuation I

Today we did some stun to make the robot to move faster with stronger stride.

Yay...It works...Feel so happy for the baby robot...

But this is method is so unethical. We were forcing the baby to take more than it could. The input voltage is 40% above the rated voltage. Baby, hope you can keep going on till the day.

The adjustments for the sesors are still required. Some minor programming modifications to include more cases when it is turning need to be in place for the baby to cope with the sharp 90 degree turn or a big circular turn. Basically, more attention is needed for the middle sensor.

This blog is so technical. Perhaps, this writting is meant for tzyy rather than for the rest of the readers.

The Lab Technician, Fei Lou, is prohibitting excessive feeding for the baby. However, without the extra feed, the baby just refuses to move properly.

How how how....

Presentation is coming soon next week and report has to be handed in the week after.

Robot Extravaganza

The Baby Robot

Baby Robot is getting ready to move

This robot is my engineering project. Supposedly, it has to be able to follow a winding black line carrying an easter egg. It has to make sure that the egg is stable and doesnt fall down from its hand while manouvering through the route towards the finish line.

This baby robot consist of a pair of legs which is made of stepper motors with the shaft connected to wheels. It has 5 infra red lights with the sensors as the eyes to see the route it is taking. A spoon is used as the hand to hold onto the egg. Finally the most important part, the brain, is controlled by a PIC ( Programmable Integrated Circuit). This brain will control every single action of the robot. Of course we can't forget about the ultimate electrical system which is equivalent to the breathing and blood flow system of a body. This system is regulated by a 12 Volt and 5 Volt supply and a darlington amplifier to amplify the signal fed to the motor.

Up to now, we have managed to come out with the physical structure of the robot which offer stability and support for the whole system. The robot has also achieved the level where it can read the line and move accordingly. That is the biggest milestone ever in this project. At that moment, I can see and feel the overflowing joy of the team members. This feeling can be equated to the happiness of the new daddy or momy who just heard their baby calling them papa and mama.

Nevertheless, there are still lots of improvement needed for this robot in order to emerge as the champion of the Eggstravaganza Robot Race. We are still yet to train the muscle of this baby so that it can run faster. Besides that, we will make sure that it learn how to carry egg like Jay Chow in Initial D carrying the whole trunk of Tofu drifting down along the mountainous route.

Blogger is going on a holiday

Hi peeps,

Holiday holiday holiday...Here I am....
Self declared long weekend is here..

Just want to let you guys now that the writer of this blog will go on holiday for a few days...
You will know why...Coz the counter is going to hit zero by tomorrow...

Will be travelling lots for this weekend...It will be a long journey...However it will be definitely worthwhile.
I will be hopping from Birmingham to London, Luton and Zagreb.

This prolonged weekend trip is definitely gonna be great.
I am going down to Zagreb to celebrate My darling Zee's birthday. It has been a while since the last time we celebrated with each other. Really looking forward to it. Hope this will be the best birthday celebration for Zee zee...

Here are some tips for budget travelling.

The best coach to take is definitely National Express. If you book early, prob you can get one pound fun fare ticket. However this time, I booked it pretty late, two days before. So I have to pay quite a sum. Hiks...But the good thing is that the frequency is every half and hour. This is definitely so much better than the local bus service in Birmingham.

Travelling from London to Luton is always expensive. I really hate that route. You would feel like being robbed. But what can we do as a passanger? Get a young person rail card will save you quite a bit though.

There are a few popular budget air accross UK: EasyJet, Ryan air, Bmi Baby, Wizz air and etc...
This time round i am flying Wizz air because this is the only budget air shuttling between London and Zagreb. Well, two ways tickets are still under 100 pound. I guess it is still reasonable.

Spring is here...But Winter doesnt want to give way...

Spring VS Winter.

The temperature dipped for the past few days, though Spring should be here because Chinese New Year has passed. It seems that Winter doesnt want to give way to Spring. It keeps bringing its chilly wind and cause so much a drop in temperature. This often confuses the flowers around here.The buds are indecisive whether to bloom or stay in its protective hiding place which shun it from the chill and wind. Some of the braver bunch decides to bloom and add colour to the ground, marking its presence as the sign of the imminent Spring.

According the weather forecast, the temperature will increase drastically for the next three days. It will reach as high as 17 degree celcius. I am so gonna miss the winter. How I wish the temperature can settle at 10 degree. Seriously, I prefer cold to warm.

I have been observing them since they shot out from the bulbs. Now i cant wait for these bunch to bloom into beautiful flowers. They will definitely add more colour to Pritchatts Park Village.

Zee n Zagreb Here I come...

I just cant wait for the counter to finish ticking off.
When that time come, I will be in beautiful Zagreb with my dearest Zee celebrating her birthday.

Bargains hunting in UK

Previously I have been telling you the expensive part of UK.

Don't panic now... There are lots of cheap and free things in UK.

Here goes the list:

Look at the amount of the snacks.
Make a wild guess how much they cost.

Drum roll...They are simply less than £20.

A tub of Ben n Jerry is just £2. How I wish it is less than $5 in Singapore.

Kinder Bueno is just £1.

Pringles is 70 p

Omg, everything seems cheaper here. Especially if you are a big fan of digestive biscuit.
Mc Vitie's is just so cheap that you will feel like have robbed them. It is just like a dollar in Singapore.

This Godly tiramisu is just cost £2 for half a Kg. You cant find any that is better than this tiramisu in singapore. I remember vividly that I got a slice of tiramisu for $7 dollar at holland village back in Singapore. That was a day light robbery.

Have a break, have a kitkat.
Have been munching on this chunky bar almost everyday.
A pack for a pound... who will not buy them? I guess I will miss all this when I go back.

All time favourite sensation potato chipsi s just 72 p a pack.
The balsamic veniger is awesome. You guys should try it.
I got 6 packs now in the room.

Toblerone is very cheap too. A pound each.
Probably coz Switzerland is near by.
Who knows it will be even cheaper there.

A bunch of tulips which will not burn a hole in your pocket.
I remembered buying a stalk of tulip for $8 in Singapore. Here I have the whole bunch for less than that. It is ridiculous.

My friend got a 12 mangoes bargain in market for just a quid. He said, ' this place is wrong.'
Perhaps he is right.

Despite all the cheap snacks, the model is priceless.

Finally here come the free stuff.

How much will you guys need to spend to watch a play down at esplanade?
The cheapest ticket for Phantom of the opera cost at $50.
Here I can get a pair of tickets to watch The Tempest by Royal Shakespears Company at Stratfort upon Avon for free. It is shakespears and it is free. I just cant believe it.

Come here guys... Pamper yourself with all this unbeatable bargain.

Student Accomodation

Here is a new update about University of Birmingham student accommodation...

There are two sites for student accomodation on campus.
Both are around 15-20 minutes of walking distance to the centre of the campus.

They are namely Pritchatts Park Village and The Vale Village.

Pritchatts Park Village is slightly closer to the campus. However the scenery is not as good as the one in The Vale Village. Nevertheless, the rental here is cheaper...

Doesnt this just look like Bungalow and resort that all of us in Singapore have always dreamt to stay in. A big semi detached with a big garden in front. This just looks like a quite resort area.

The vale has more spectacular view and scenery; a beautiful lake with swans and pelicans swimming all year round, a garden with squirrels running all over the ground. This simply reminds me of Raffles Hall in National University of Singapore. I miss Singapore and especially miss Raffles Hall. But, now I can't possibly go back there anymore. Sigh.

Anyway, the student accomodation isn't that cheap here. It ranges from 85 to over 100 of pounds per week. This easily double the fee i paid for my accom in Singapore. I am officially broke now coz i have to stay for 26 weeks here.

A better way of getting an accommodation is to rent a house and share with your friends.
But it is just too troublesome and the houses here are pretty old and 'dilapidated'- it is even older than my granny's house.

Birmingham here I am

I am currently having a Student Exchange Programme with University of Birmingham as my partner university.

Here is the wonder uni which make me look up in awe.

The red brick design and the clock tower is no where to be found in National University of Singapore.

I really love to be here.

These buildings are simply majestic.

This university is so accessible such that it has gates in all four directions.
One of it is West Gate, which is next to the University Station.

Hope all of you can visit this place one day.
